After School Extended Day Program
An extended day program is available to all MWJDS students. We offer our standard after school program Monday through Thursday from 3:15 to 5:30, and Friday from 1:45 to 4:00. This program costs $25.00 per day for drop-in students and $20 per day for regularly scheduled care. This program is discounted for families who use after school for more than three days a week (specifically, $80 for all five days). There is also a 25% discount for a second child (sibling) in the after school program.
This year, the standard after school program will be staffed by Jeremy Arcus-Goldberg, with help from other regular MWJDS staff and/or additional college or graduate students as needed. Our standard after school program includes a healthy snack, homework club, outdoor time (weather permitting), board games and arts and crafts.
MWJDS Club Options:
The game of kings returns. Practice your concentration and use strategy and tactics to win at this classic game. We will teach anyone interested the basics as well as set up problems to solve for every level. We will focus on the skills needed in the game as well as healthy competition.
(Using games, apps, Scratch) – Don’t just play games on the computer, make your own! We will use a variety of software and activities to learn the basics of programming. Take your creative idea and bring it to life on a computer.
Are you bored of flinging angry birds and flappy birds? Tired of Uno, Old Maid, and Yahtzee? Learn what makes a game hit the right spot between boring and impossible. We will create video game levels and tabletop games.
Strategy Board Games
(i.e. beyond Chess) – Modern board games are not just a rainy day activity. You may be a monster rolling dice to take over a city, or a team of firefighters saving people from a burning building. Practice lifetime skills of problem solving, communication, decision making, and more without even realizing it.
Be the star of after school! Entertain your friends by performing theatrical scenes and playing improv. games.
Make ‘em laugh, share jokes, stories, and puns.
(Softball, Soccer, Kickball, Capture the Flag)- Get your body moving with various team activities. Basic skills will be reinforced but the emphasis will be on getting everybody in the game stressing sportsmanship, playing hard, and having fun.
(math and science) – Let’s play with numbers, symbols, logic, geometry. You may be surprised where you can find math – from cooking to art, and from sports to movies. Science activities like Mad Science – Science comes out of the books and into your lap in this activity. Explore an idea in science with hands-on activities.
A focused block to work on the day’s homework and long term assignments.
