Our Visit With Pizmon
What an exciting Friday at MWJDS! We had a great time singing with members of Pizmon today! They taught us a new tune to Hinei Mah Tov and even taught us some beatboxing. We might even share with you the secret beatbox words, if you ask us….
In other Rimon news, first grade students read their small moment stories to an appreciative audience of PreK and K students at the beginning of the week. Rimon Writers have now begun to write their own pattern books. Stay tuned as the pattern books take shape….
In math, the children were thrilled to have completed the first workbook and move onto the second. We began a new unit on weight this week. The children have been enjoying using the classroom balance to predict the weight of various items in cubes and square tiles. We are using non-standard units to compare the weight of different items in the classroom.
Fundations continues to focus on vowel teams and words with closed syllables. Rimon students now have earned the vowel teams ee, ea, ay, ey, oy and oi. The children are expected to read words with these vowel teams but are not yet held accountable for spelling words with these vowel teams. That will come in future years. Next week we will learn even more vowel teams and will begin to work on some additional suffixes such as ing and ed.
In Jewish Living and Learning this week, we read a book called Fins and Scales and learned about some of the rules for keeping Kosher. In Tanakh, we read the story about Yaakov fleeing from Eisav, having the dream about the angels going up and down a ladder and then meeting Rachel.
We were inspired by Yitzchak’s blessing of Yaakov to write our own Rimon blessing. Here it is:
May we guide each other and help each other.
May we stay friends with each other.
May we be guided by God.
May we be happy and healthy.
May we always love each other.
On that note, I wish you all a peaceful and fulfilling Shabbat.
