Tuition Assistance

MetroWest Jewish Day School

Tuition Assistance Policy

February, 2007

MetroWest Jewish Day School is committed to making its educational program accessible to all who seek it for their children. Even though full tuition at our school does not cover all of the costs of educating a child, we recognize that the cost of day school education may be beyond the financial ability of many families. For this reason, we at MWJDS have created a financial assistance policy to help bridge this gap for those qualified families. A limited amount of scholarship funds is available to those who would experience significant hardship in paying the full tuition cost. Again, we want to emphasize that we will make every effort to ensure that no qualified student is prevented from attending our school for financial reasons.

Steps in the Process

  • MWJDS utilizes the services of an independent financial aid service company (SSS) to determine a baseline amount that the family can afford to pay toward tuition.  The school will provide the appropriate forms and instructions for their use.  It is the family’s responsibility to complete these forms on time and to pay the minimal processing cost.
  • When we have received the assessment from SSS and a copy of your 2007 Federal Income Tax return, the application will be reviewed by the school’s Tuition Assistance Committee composed of persons independent from our school community. The members of this committee are anonymous.
  • After we begin the review, we may ask you for more information. The Committee will make a final determination of the amount of tuition the family will be responsible for paying. Tuition Assistance is awarded for one year only and families must reapply every year.
  • Special circumstances are taken into account if a written letter is submitted during the application process.  Should mid-year changes occur in your financial circumstances, please let us know.  MWJDS wants to help make a difficult period easier for our families. All applications are treated in strictest confidence.

Please remember that communication is the key to a successful and equitable tuition assistance program.  Our program is designed to assist families in obtaining a Jewish day school education for their children.  Keep us informed and we will work together to build a positive financial plan for both you and the school.
