Wellness
Physical education is important to children’s healthy development, both for body and mind. The MWJDS program incorporates exercise, sports and age appropriate discussion to making healthy choices relating to eating and activity. Movement to music, simple stretching, and a combination of structured and unstructured play keep the children interested and active. In addition, older children learn about more traditional sports while building individual skills and promoting teamwork and cooperation through competition.
Students work on developing skills in a number of areas particularly related to soccer, kickball, hockey, basketball, dodge ball, four square and baseball. They develop basic coordination skills through drills associated with these games such as throwing, passing, shooting, running, kicking, and hitting a ball. Other areas worked on include listening, understanding the rules of the traditional games (sometimes with a fun twist), sportsmanship, treating each other kindly and respectfully and appropriate sports etiquette.
