Classroom Pages

At MWJDS, we feel a strong link to Hebrew, Israel and the Jewish community. Each class is named after one of the seven species of Israel, or something special about Israel.

“…a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey” ~ Deut. 8:8

“For when I shall have brought them into the land which I swore unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey..”  ~ Deut. 31:20

A class receives a name in Kindergarten that stays with it, as a foundation for the identify of that community, throughout its career at MWJDS. In the 2014 – 2015 school year, we celebrate all our classes:

  • Kindergarten Chalav (milk)honey-and-milk-get-attachment
  • First Grade D’vash (date honey)
  • Second Grade Hitah (wheat)
  • Third Grade Se’orah (barley)
  • Fourth Grade Gefen (grapes)
  • Fifth Grade Tamar (dates)
  • Sixth Grade Zayit (olives)
  • Seventh Grade Rimon (pomegranates)
  • Eighth Grade Te’enah (figs)

Because we group many of our classes by learning level rather than strictly by grade, we also have groupings:Tree

  • Shorashim (roots) – grades K and 1
  • Anafim (branches) – grades 2 and 3
  • Alim (leaves) – grade 4
  • Atid (future) – our middle school grades 5, 6, 7 and 8
