MetroWest Jewish Day School (MWJDS), a community school which welcomes and respects all Jewish traditions, opened its doors in September 2003. From the very first class, which included 6 students in kindergarten and first grade, the school has increased enrollment each year and expanded its geographical reach.
A Jewish day school is a basic building block of a strong Jewish community. MWJDS is a magnet for children and families in Metrowest, attracting those currently living here as well as those who will come.
The suburban area west of Boston offers an ideal setting for this day school. The fast growing and large Jewish community is populated by people who value education and have expertise in the high tech industry, medicine, law, and education. More than 16,000 children (ages 0-18 years) are among the 57,000 Jews who live in the 30 communities that comprise the Metrowest area. MetroWest Jewish Day School serves as an anchor for Jewish communal life in Metrowest.
In 2005, five families invested in our common Jewish future with the purchase of a 10-acre site for MWJDS just a half mile from Route 9. The new school will include a science center, art studios, athletic facilities, and meeting rooms where we will host educational and cultural activities for students of all ages. In the meantime, we are pleased to call our home the former Juniper Hill School in Framingham.
In 2008, MWJDS welcomed students from the Worcester Jewish community after the close of their own day school, The New Jewish Academy. This union is strengthened by our relationship with their area synagogues and federation as we include them in our community.
In Fall 2010, MWJDS launched Atid, the middle school program.
